Short Codes

Short codes are special telephone numbers significantly shorter than full telephone numbers, which can be used to receive both SMS text messages and multimedia messages (MMS) from mobile phones or even landline telephones.

When it comes to short codes there are 2 different options which include dedicated and shared short codes:

A Shared short code is a short code that is shared amongst a number of operators, each operator can then choose their own keywords to have access to that number so all texts sent to that number using that specific keyword will be received by the operator.

A Dedicated short code is a short code that is used by only one operator, the operator then has full control of this number so that they can setup as many keywords as they wish and any text messages sent to that number are received by the operator.

Premium SMS is also known as Reverse Billing SMS, where the operator does not pay to send the text message as it costs the end user to receive them instead.

In order to be able to send Premium SMS's you will firstly need to choose a short code, you will then have a number to both receive texts to and send texts from to allow for two-way messaging with your customers.
